My lucky number has been 15 since I can remember. I still remember the moment like it was yesterday. I had just moved from a local team to a new club called Monash City. It was a highly rated junior football club and they were ranked top 3 at every age level. I was one of the few new players that season, as they rarely had openings in their squad, and when it came time to pick a shirt number, there were only a few left to choose from.
I remember getting in the car disappointed that night until my Granddad said to me:
“Pick a number that no one ever goes for and make it your own. Wear that number with pride and make them remember it.”
From that day forward, it has been my goal to do just that on the football field.
I carry these values into Academy XV. I encourage every player I coach to discover their own way to play, do it with pride, play with passion and make a statement.
